Sitting up straight, just like on Snickers

Pretend you are riding Snickers like you do at RDA.

Emma, Jonty's mum

Five-year-old Jonty has Down syndrome and has choking episodes when drinking. His doctors needed an X-ray swallow test, but getting Jonty to sit up straight for it was the problem.

His mum Emma had the answer. She told him: "Pretend you are riding Snickers like you do at RDA." Jonty understood, sat up straight with a smile, and signed 'horse' in sign language. The doctors got the video they needed.

It means Jonty won't have to go through the same fluid tests every time he is admitted to hospital. Something he learned on horseback is now part of his care plan.
